New Jersey Motorsports Park was the event that took
this past weekend, despite the weather being clear and sunny
on Saturday. Come Sunday, what a different story, early
drizzle gave way to the clouds opening up to heavy rain.
Nonetheless, the race went on and so did the coverage. There
were many fans present during the practice and qualifying for
Saturday, but when the actual race day came, only the true
race fans braved the rain to watch the rain soaked cars make
their way around the track.
This
same weekend the KONI Sports Car Challenge was held in
conjunction to the Grand Am-Rolex Series Race. 47 entrants
were listed, but only 45 actually showed up, as 2 of the teams
had withdrew from the race. This 90 minute race had an average
speed ranging from 80.571 to 83.131 MPH and of the starting
line, 11 cars finished on the lead lap. Mustangs, BMW M3s,
Mazda MX-5s, a Subaru Legasy, VW GTIs, and yes even a
Chevrolet Cobalt were in the race. The top 5 cars finished as
follows:
1) Drivers: Ende/Pumpelly,
Team/Car: TRG/Porsche 997 2) Gleason/Hand, Turner
Motorsport / BMW M3 Coupe 3) Johnson/Ludwig, Motorsport
Technology Group / Porsche 997 4)
Hillestad/Russell/Waddell, Automatic Racing / BMW M3
Coupe 5) Gue/Seafuse, JBS
Motorsports/Ford Mustang GT
As for the Rolex Series
there were 31 cars that were on the grid and only 6 made it
thru the full race, despite numerous yellow and double yellow
flags. The top 5 are as follows
-

Jonsson/Zonta, Team/Car: Krohn Racing/Ford Lola
-

Angelelli/Frisselle, SunTrust Racing/Ford Dallara

April
24, 2009: MIRock Series Motorcycle Racing, MD Intl
Raceway
In Maryland, the first of many
MOTORCYCLE events took place this past weekend.
Everything from from stock bikes driven on a daily basis to
motorcycles with extended swing arms were present.
There were even some bikes that had aftermarket turbos and
even bikes that ran the drag stip with nitrous
oxide (NOS) bottles attached. If you
look at the coverage carefully you can see many of the higher
end bikes with larger swing arms purging the NOS before
getting set to race down the quarter mile. (Photo/Text

This monthly event, held by
the same people that run the Drift Nirvana

Challenge....teams from New Image, Team Emotion and local

Challenger and a wicked black on black NISMO Nissan
