April 30 - May 3, 2009: Rolex Cup and KONI Sports Car Challenge, NJMP, NJ
New Jersey Motorsports Park was the event that took this past weekend, despite the weather being clear and sunny on Saturday. Come Sunday, what a different story, early drizzle gave way to the clouds opening up to heavy rain. Nonetheless, the race went on and so did the coverage. There were many fans present during the practice and qualifying for Saturday, but when the actual race day came, only the true race fans braved the rain to watch the rain soaked cars make their way around the track.

This same weekend the KONI Sports Car Challenge was held in conjunction to the Grand Am-Rolex Series Race. 47 entrants were listed, but only 45 actually showed up, as 2 of the teams had withdrew from the race. This 90 minute race had an average speed ranging from 80.571 to 83.131 MPH and of the starting line, 11 cars finished on the lead lap. Mustangs, BMW M3s, Mazda MX-5s, a Subaru Legasy, VW GTIs, and yes even a Chevrolet Cobalt were in the race. The top 5 cars finished as follows:
  • 1) Drivers: Ende/Pumpelly, Team/Car: TRG/Porsche 997
  • 2) Gleason/Hand, Turner Motorsport / BMW M3 Coupe
  • 3) Johnson/Ludwig, Motorsport Technology Group / Porsche 997
  • 4) Hillestad/Russell/Waddell, Automatic Racing / BMW M3 Coupe
  • 5) Gue/Seafuse, JBS Motorsports/Ford Mustang GT

As for the Rolex Series there were 31 cars that were on the grid and only 6 made it thru the full race, despite numerous yellow and double yellow flags. The top 5 are as follows

  • 1) Drivers: Jonsson/Zonta, Team/Car: Krohn Racing/Ford Lola
  • 2) Angelelli/Frisselle, SunTrust Racing/Ford Dallara
  • 3) Bernhard/Dumas, Penske Racing/Porsche Riley
  • 4) Donohue/Law, Brumos Racing/Porsche Riley
  • 5) Frisselle/Wilkins, AIM Autosport/Ford Riley

April 24, 2009: MIRock  Series Motorcycle Racing, MD Intl Raceway

In Maryland, the first of many MOTORCYCLE events took place this past weekend.  Everything from from stock bikes driven on a daily basis to motorcycles with extended swing arms were present.  There were even some bikes that had aftermarket turbos and even bikes that ran the drag stip with nitrous oxide (NOS) bottles attached.    If you look at the coverage carefully you can see many of the higher end bikes with larger swing arms purging the NOS before getting set to race down the quarter mile.  (Photo/Text by N deVera)

This monthly event, held by the same people that run the Drift Nirvana website,   But this time around, along with the Drift Nirvana drivers, there were seveal drivers from the US DRIFT series who were present.  (Photo/Text by N deVera)

March 29, 2009 - Drift Nirvana, Summit Point, WV

Drifting.....it's the fad.....but not only for experienced drivers.  Local drifters showed up to show what they had to offer....check out local drivers who duked it out for the Drift Nirvana event that was held at the Shenandoah Circuit at the Summit Point Racetrack.  Nissans (350z/Skyline/240), Fords (Mustang), and yes there were some BMWs (3-Series) that were present at this event.

Oh, how about the Skid Pad?  The same kind of cars that were on the drifting track were also tested out on the Skid Pad.  Be sure to check out the coverage of this local event! (Photo/Text by N deVera)

February 2008 - Harrisburg, PA: Tunerwars

What happens in February usually happens indoors.  In this case, the 2009 Tunerwars show was held in Harrisburg, PA despite the cold winter weather..... People were brave to come out and fight the cold weather to view what car enthusiasts had to offer early this season.   There were some 200 cars that were on display as each one was trying to win the top prize in the F4 Challenge....teams from New Image, Team Emotion and local enthusiasts were present..You name it, it was here: Subarus, Toyotas, Mazdas, Mustangs and everything inbetween.

The 2009 Tjin Edition Tour was also at this show.  Present at this show was their famous Nissan R34 Skyline Sedan, the Tjin Edition Chevy Cobalt SS, Dave's Dodge Challenger and a wicked black on black NISMO Nissan 350z.

There was also a Bikini Contest, demonstrations by the Anti-Team Motorcycle Stunt Team, an appearance by BMX Master and U.S. Trials Champion Mike Steidley, and a live concert featuring Planeside and The Mercurial kept the tunes going during this busy Saturday.   (Photo credits A Dobbs and N deVera/Text by N deVera)
